:: How beautiful this island!

The first step on an island, it's always the promise of adventure. Just landed in the port of the Palais, take the time to get on the hills above the city. Enjoy superb views of the mainland and the two neighboring Belle Isle: Houat Hoëdic.

And it's true that this island is well named! Legend says it was born of the wreath of the Fairy Queen of Dark Forest. The largest of the Breton islands (17 km long and 9 km wide) is the jewel of the Gulf of Morbihan, with its rolling countryside, moors, beautiful beaches, Wild Coast, small harbors and charming villages.

It is better to avoid peak hours, the bustling port Palace is worth a visit. Located at the bottom of an ancient estuary, The Palace is dominated by the Vauban citadel, former royal fort. It is here that live half of 5200 inhabitants of the island. The museum, which focuses on the history of the island and its famous guests, worth a look.

Coves :: dunes and sandy

It's at the Palace for you to choose your means of locomotion. The coastal path will delight hikers. He toured the island, 82 km in total (4-5 days walk for the more adventurous), a beautiful and extremely varied itinerary.

For those who prefer to work only in a few sections, you can take the bus network to reach the main attractions. Cycling is also the best way to walk on the island, which is dotted with several well signposted routes. Prepare for your calf muscles: it goes up and down!

Last option for an overview of the whole island if you stay a short time, renting a car. It's better than coming up with their own vehicle (reservation well in advance and pass necessary not given).

Belle Island, 20 km long, offers an impressive variety of landscapes. For a trip to the beach, you'll be spoiled for choice: the island has 58! From Le Palace, you can reach the beach of fine white sand Bordadoué or Big Rock Creek, which is accessed by a narrow path from the locality Kerviniec.

If you go for a swim break between Palace and Crozon, the beach of Port Fouquet is ideal. Hence, for those who like toad, keep the coastal path for 300m towards Sauzon away a beautiful cove, perfect for Robinson Crusoe at the foot of the cliffs.

To appreciate the diversity of the coast, nothing better than a kayak tour. Some strokes deep in a cave, swimming in an inaccessible on foot cove ... At the water's edge, you will discover another side of island life, including the local fauna and flora.

On the rocks, you will be surprised to see surprising crustacean-like fingers raised: barnacles. Very popular with the Spanish and Portuguese, this little animal is subject to a strictly regulated on Belle Island fishing.

Clouds :: scum on the wild side

If the front southeast of the island exudes tranquility and sweetness of life, the wild coast, exposed to the ocean is rougher. You can start your walk to the needles of Port-Coton, impressive rocks known to have inspired a painting of Claude Monet.

Starting west, the coastal path winds along steep cliffs. After an hour of walking, we reach Overlooking beach dunes popular with surfers. If the view of the rollers makes you want to taste the joys of skiing, Ty School offers courses in surfing and bodyboarding.

To measure the immensity of the ocean, towards the tip of the Colts at the northwest end of the island. Clouds of foam bubbling roar of the waves crashing on the rocks ... The view is majestic.

The Colts island on which the lighthouse is situated, is connected to the island by a sandy path, the tombolo. Be careful at high tide, this passage is immersed. Do not be fooled!

This imposing site had conquered Sarah Bernhardt. In 1894, the actress bought a small military fort and the Colts built two villas to accommodate his family. These buildings, which are now the property of the Coastal Conservancy, is currently open to the public.

The fort, furnished and decorated as in 1904, immerses visitors in the atmosphere of Belle-Ile summers actress, while Villa Five parts of the world dedicated a museum space.

After the harshness of the tip of the Colts, the quiet Sauzon harbor, lined with greenery, is ideal for a stopover on the terrace. Nestled at the mouth of a river, this charming village will give you one wish, miss the boat and extend your getaway.

Be careful, you are 17 km from the Palace Pier, do not over extend your layover on the lively banks of Sauzon!
